AN OIL rig worker is to run 65 miles from Dorset to Normandy to mark the 65th anniversary of D-Day.

Jim Clarke, of Monks Orchard Road, Beckenham, hopes to raise £2,500 for armed service charities including the Royal British Legion and Help for Heroes.

The 38-year-old will run with more than 200 others leaving from Tarrant Rushton Airfield on June 4 arriving at Pegasus Bridge on June 6.

Mr Clarke, who spent nine years in the army’s parachute regiment, said: “I am doing it to raise awareness of former and present serving members of the armed services.

“We are trying to raise money to give them some quality of life if they get injured, because they don’t always get much support from the government.”
