Two firefighters from Lewisham are to run the London Marathon to raise money for good causes.

Paul Osborne, a firefighter of 12 years who is based at New Cross Fire Station, decided to run in aid of the Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB) after they helped his late grandmother.

The 33-year-old said: “I’m really looking forward to the challenge of running the marathon and hope to complete it in four-and-a-half hours. It’s also a fantastic way to raise money for charity.

“I feel this is a way of saying a big thank you to the RNIB who help millions of people across the country who suffer from sight loss.”

Two time marathon runner Daniel Capon of Forest Hill Fire Station, 33, is running in aid of the Fire Fighters Charity.

The firefighter of 11 years said: “It’s a charity close to my heart because it’s helped several of my colleagues over the years.

“Amongst other things the charity provides therapy, rehabilitation and recuperation facilities for injured fire fighters.”
