A TEENAGER has been put behind bars for his part in a robbery at Anerley railway station.

CCTV images showed Sharmarke Madar, of Seymour Villas, Anerley, and an unknown accomplice waiting for security guards to collect takings from the station booking office on August 21 last year.

While 19-year-old Madar kept a look-out, his accomplice wrestled a cash box containing £1,900 from the guards.

The pair then fled in Madar’s silver Peugeot shortly after 9.20am.

Detective Constable Dave Chenery, from the British Transport Police’s robbery squad, said: "A member of the public, who had noticed the car and the two males acting suspiciously, had taken down the number plate of the car and it was traced back to Madar, who was the registered keeper of the vehicle.”

Madar was arrested the following day at his home.

Det Con Chenery said despite exhaustive inquiries, police had been unable to trace Madar’s accomplice, adding: "No one has come forward with information in regard to this individual and Madar has refused to comment on the man's identity."

Madar pleaded guilty to robbery and was given an 18-month custodial sentence when he appeared at Southwark Crown Court yesterday (March 25).

Anyone with information on his accomplice should call 0800 405040.
