YOUNGSTERS celebrated world book day with a visit from a children’s author.

Anthony Browne visited pupils at St Stephen’s Catholic Primary School, Ruskin Avenue, Welling on March 5 to talk about his writing career and sign copies of his books.

Mr Browne who lives in Kent is also an internationally recognised illustrator and has more than 40 titles to his name.

The author read out extracts from his latest book, My Mum and talked about his life as a writer and illustrator at a special assembly attended by more than 400 pupils from all year groups.

Staff also set up a stall selling signed copies of his books.

Sally Williams, a Year four teacher at the school said: “It was brilliant and he was very engaging.

“It rounded up a week of activities held at the school to celebrate national world book day on March 5.

"This included book buddy groups, were the older pupils read books chosen by the younger pupils and pupils created hats worn by famous book characters.”
