A FRUSTRATED commuter is demanding the Government builds two more river crossings.

John O’Keefe wants two bridges or tunnels built in between Dartford Bridge and the Blackwall Tunnel and has set up a petition on the Downing Street website.

The 46-year-old needs to cross the river every day to get to Bow, where he works as a complaints officer.

He said: “Every morning there are either breakdowns or tunnel closures on my route. The ferry is always breaking down too.

“I’m hoping there’ll be a lot of support for this.”

Last November, long-standing plans for the Thames Gateway Bridge connecting Greenwich to east London were dropped by London Mayor Boris Johnson.

Mr O’Keefe, from Weigall Road, Lee Green, said: “What gets me is the amount of money being spent on the Olympics but it is not considered necessary to build something like the Gateway bridge.

“If you look at a map for the tansport infrastructure of London you’ll see south east London is very poor in comparison to the rest.”
