VOLUNTEERS at a charity shop celebrated its 20th anniversary with cake and champagne at a mayor’s tea party.

More than 20 volunteers at The Macmillan Charity Shop, High Street, Crayford were invited by the Mayor of Bexley, Councillor Nick O’Hare to the event on Tuesday (MARCH 10).

It was held in the mayor’s parlour at the Civic Offices in Broadway Bexleyheath.

Jean Fitzpatrick has been a volunteer at the shop for 17 years, she said: “It was an excellent afternoon, he made us feel very welcome.

“The mayor’s parlour was lovely and we had tea and cakes, as well as a glass of champagne which the charity provided.

“Everyone really enjoyed themselves and the mayoral party made us feel very welcome.”

Since the shop opened in 1989 it has raised more than £1m for the charity, Macmillan Cancer Support.

More than 30 unpaid volunteers work at the shop as well as four of the founder members.
