A TRIAL campaign to crackdown on lazy drivers has been launched.
The trial campaign, which aims to stop people parking on the no-stopping zig-zag areas outside schools, was launched on March 6 by councillors from Gravesham Council.
It is being supported by Kent County Council, and the police.
It is taking place at Riverview Park Primary School in Cimba Wood, Gravesend, and Istead Rise Primary School in Downs Road, Northfleet.
Children at the schools have been given red and yellow cards which they will be able to issue to their parents if they park on the zig-zags.
There will also be high-visibility enforcement officers from the council outside the school who will issue fines if the cards are ignored.
Gravehsam cabinet member Councillor John Cubitt said: “I think any campaign to reduce and hopefully stop drivers from parking in zig-zag zones is a great idea.
“The zones are there for a reason – to protect pedestrians and give clear access to and from schools. I shall be requesting that officers from the council enforcement unit provide as much support as possible for the scheme.”
If successful, the long term objective is that every school in Gravesham will continue the scheme.
