THE last bag of Woolies Pic N Mix sweets from a store in Petts Wood was sold for £14,500 yesterday (February 21).

On Thursday, bids for the sweets totalled just £310 but that figure raced to £14,500 by noon yesterday, with 115 bids for the tasty bag of treats.

Before he closed his Woolworths store in Queensway, Petts Wood, for the last time on January 3, manager Ed Adams bagged up 800 grams of cola bottles, rhubarb and custards, chocolate white mice and strawberry bon-bons.

The rare collection was put into an online auction, with any profits going to the Retail Trust, a charity looking after the welfare of retail workers and their families.

Speaking when the sweets were put online, Mr Adams said: “I spotted at least a bag’s worth of Pic N Mix was left in the counter just before I closed the shop for the last time.

“I then decided to bag it up before contacting Retail Trust to see if it could be auctioned on their behalf.

“I hope the auction raises funds to go towards the Retail Trust helpline, which is a lifeline during these difficult times.”

The bag has been officially certified by Woolworths' administrators, Deloitte, as the last one.
