THE man accused of Rob Knox's murder was holding two knives with 25cm blades, a court heard.

Michael Cooper said Karl Bishop seemed to have an 'angry' attitude and was swinging the weapons around outside the Metro Bar on May 24.

He said: "I remember hearing someone shouting out 'put the knives down and we'll have a proper fight'."

Mr Cooper said Bishop did put the knives back in his pockets and was then punched by someone.

He said: "Then he took them back out and started swinging his arms around."

The witness said Bishop was walking towards the crowd of people outside the bar as he waved the knives.

And he said one man, believed to be Mr Knox's friend Charley Grimley, was cut in the face as he stood there.

Mr Cooper's companion that night George Whitsey told the court he saw someone else who was "just standing there watching" get stabbed in the neck and fall straight to the floor.

Another person came up behind Bishop and hit him with a chair, the Old Bailey heard today (Feb 17).

Mr Knox then took hold of the defendant in a bear hug and the two of them fell into a flower bed, Mr Cooper said.

He told the court somebody threw a chair into the bush and another person swung a pole into it to break up the pair.

Mr Knox died from stab wounds after the fight.

Bishop, aged 21, of Beaver Lodge, Carlton Road, Sidcup, denies murder and five counts of wounding with intent to cause grevious bodily harm.

The trial continues.
