BEXLEY: Changes aimed at improving bus routes

First published in News

A RAFT of changes to Bexley bus routes designed to improve bus services in the borough has come into operation.

The changes involve 99, 132, 469, B12 and B15 buses.

Route 99, connecting Woolwich and Erith, has been extended to Bexleyheath via Slade Green.

This will improve access to Bexley College and provide new links to Bexleyheath for parts of Belvedere, as well as linking Slade Green directly with Plumstead and Woolwich.

The 132 route running from Bexleyheath to Eltham station has been extended to North Greenwich, giving direct access to the Jubilee Tube line, The O2 and the Millennium Village, with a last bus leaving North Greenwich at 1am.

People living in Erith who use Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich will be able to travel on the 469 route, which used to end at Bexleyheath but has now been extended.

The B15 between Bexleyheath and Joydens Wood has been axed and instead the B12 will be extended.

Instead of ending at Bexleyheath, the B12 will now also run between Erith and Joydens Wood.

Well the Headline must be the joke of the year so far, but no doubt it has come from TFL.

Route 99 on the first day suffered delays and gaps of over 25 minutes, but I suppose that can be put down to the drivers not knowing the route and having to play follow the leader.

On Sunday, there was at 10.25 am a gap in the service of over 45 minutes in the direction of Woolwich from Belvedere, Yet in the direction of Erith and Bexleyheath the buses seemed to be palying Plumstead Garages favoourite game of Follow my Leader.

Monday evening the was at around 6pm a 50 minute gap in the service in the direction of Bexleyheath from Woolwich. Later in the Evening at around 8.15pm a gap in the same direction of over 20 minutes, and the bus I caught was driven by one of the drivers who thought he was at Silverstone, or maybe Lewes Hamilton drives for Selkent Buses in the winter.

Today, I have experienced Plumsteads Favourite Game, with at 3.15pm buses running on route 99 every 2 minutes. Ok I am sad and I have made a formal complaint witha photo showing this rare occassion to Mr Peter Hendy, so maybe the route 99 can cease to be the joke, it has become and get back to the service the route used to enjoy and go back to been a route which was used by all aged groups.

On Monday a member of the Staff at Plumstead Garage, named Dennis blamed all the poor service and running delays on Mothers picking children up from school has the main cause.

Even the third bus this morning was 5 minutes late at Belvedere Police Station no doubt this would put down to the mothers taking children to school at 6am in Selkent Buses eyes.

Like always the News Shopper has its fact wrong again, the service 469 has for at least 4 years run from Erith to QE Hospital, Also there was no mention of teh increase in frequency of the 401 route from Thamesmead to Bexleyheath or of the re-routing of service 132 to North Greenwich.

It is a shame that TFL do not listen to the members of the Public who have to endue the substandard of service which TFL call a bus service on the 99 route, who told them that there would be delays by extending the 99. And maybe the way round the problem would of been to introduce a hail and scheme using smaller buses which would link in to other services at Erith.

No doubt, has this effects Belvedere, TFL and LB Bexley are using the 99 bus route has way of publishing the residents for telling them 'Thanks but No Thanks' to the Nuxley Village Regeneration Scheme.

A very shoddy article, with a number of inaccurancies.

Also doesn't mention the evening frequency increase on the 229.

Now after playing with the route99 TFL and now playing with the school buses in the area.

What next route 401 been overcrowed at schooltimes and a 3rd rate service for FULL PAYING customers, maybe Boris is going to give us a Free Pass for putting up with the cuts and lack of services in the borough.
