SCHOOL pupils are celebrating raising more than £1,000 for a school in Nepal.
Year nine pupils, aged 13 to 14, at St Ursula’s Convent School, in Crooms Hill, Greenwich, raised £1,150 in aid of Kumbeshwar Technical School in Kathmandu, which provides education to deprived communities.
St Ursula’s was one of several schools to sell goods at a charity market, organised by Fairtrade business Comolongmo, at Greenwich Market, Greenwich, in October.
As a reward for raising the most money, a handmade Nepalese carpet designed by 13-year-old pupil Sophia Dunn was presented to students and staff during a ceremony at the school, on January 21.
Councillor John Fahy, Greenwich Council cabinet member for culture, said: “The girls on the stall were so confident and bubbly. I thought they could sell ice-cream to Eskimos.”
