A SMOKE alarm which had been installed by firefighters a few months ago saved a couple’s lives this morning (January 27).
The pair, who are in their 60s, were woken up by the device alerting them that there was a fire in the living room of their house in Amblecote Close, Grove Park.
Two firefighters had to go into the home to rescue the man from the top floor of the building but the woman managed to get herself out at around 1am today.
The crews from Downham and Lee Green managed to stop the fire from spreading from a chair in the living room and it is not being treated as suspicious.
