BECKENHAM: Mistaken identity possible cause of bottle attack

A TEENAGER who was bottled at a football centre in Beckenham might not have been the intended victim.

Police say there is strong evidence to suggest the attack at Goals, Copers Cope Road, was a case of mistaken identity.

The 17-year-old victim was left with cuts to his nose, around his eyes and to his left cheek after the bottle was smashed in his face.

Officers say the suspect is a light skinned Asian male, around 5ft 7in tall and aged about 18.

They want to speak to the man pictured in connection with the assault that took place on September 5 last year at around 11.30pm.

Anyone who can help identify him should call Detective Constable Pete Murray at Bromley police CID on 020 8284 8859.

Newsshopper,

Is there any chance that we could have a bigger picture. This is too small and not clear enough.

September 5 last year !!!!! is this a typo, or are the police normally this quick to request help from the public.

Surely mistaken identity is not the cause of the attack but is the result. The cause of the attack is some drunken yob who for some reason decided that to smash a bottle in someone's face is the height of recreational accomplishment.

There have been quite a few incidents at GOALS over the last few months, so this doesn't surprise me, but I don't know why they continue to allow the parties there? Just a couple of weeks ago we saw what can be described as a mini riot spilling out into Copers Cope, with about 50 teens fighting, urinating all over parked cars, threatening to kick my neighbours dog while she was out walking etc. I called 999 and no one turned up, and when I called GOALS the next morning, I was told by the manager that he was too busy to talk to me. what a joke!
