A BLOCKADE by mums in protest at speeding drivers outside a school in Abbey Wood continued today.

Mothers of pupils at De Lucy Primary School, in Cookhill Road, have been forming a human chain across the road leading to the school’s entrance.

They decided to take action after a child was nearly run over before Christmas.

Mum Samantha Barker, of Sewell Road, Abbey Wood, says headteacher Linda Cohen has agreed to call a meeting next week to discuss the issues raised by the protestors.

The 39-year-old said: “At the meeting she’s going to advise drivers not to use the road.

“The protest is not going to be just a drop in the ocean. We are going to go all the way.”

Yesterday, a fight broke out, believed to be between a driver and a resident who was complaining about cars parking on the pavements.

Protestor Wendy Baillie, of Manor Road, Erith, says confrontations of this kind are common.

The 33-year-old said: “Every afternoon there’s some sort of confrontation with somebody because the parents are parking where they shouldn’t be parking.

“They don’t like it because they can’t pull down this road and pick their kids up.

“It’s a two minute walk to the gate so why should our kids be put at risk for it.”

It is not thought anyone was arrested but News Shopper has contacted Greenwich police for information.
