A FIFTEEN-YEAR history of anti-social behaviour has led to a man being banned from being drunk in public.

The condition was imposed on Steven Carley Wright when he was given a two-year Asbo by Dartford magistrates on December 16.

Wright, of Factory Road, Northfleet, is also banned from threatening violence to any person in a public place.

The Asbo was granted after prosecutor Robert De Banzie told magistrates Wright had a “history of alcohol and other substance abuse and anti- social behaviour stretching back over a period of 15 years”.

Mr De Banzie said this included “assaults, criminal damage and various public order offences, usually committed while intoxicated”.

The court heard Wright had been arrested 98 times in the past 11 years, including eight arrests in June this year, and been given four custodial sentences since 2007.

Adrian Rohard, representing Wright, said the 33-year- old had not committed any offences in the past three months and questioned whether an Asbo was really necessary.

However, chairman of the bench Pat Bosley said it was “necessary for an Asbo to be in place to protect the public” from Wright.

Before the application for an Asbo was made, Wright had been sentenced by magistrates for an assault he had already pleaded guilty to.

He was given a 120-day jail term, suspended for 12 months, and ordered to do 150 hours’ community service.

The court heard Wright had been throwing stones at trains in Sidcup station on June 21.

When a member of staff asked him to leave he punched the man twice, leaving the worker with a black eye.

Wright was ordered to pay £125 compensation to the man and ordered to go on an alcohol rehabilitation programme.

Wright was also given a 12-month conditional discharge for an offence of disorderly conduct he had admitted.

The court heard this related to an incident on August 7 in which he tried to punch a female police officer.

Two officers had gone to Rathmore Road, Gravesend, after police received reports Wright had been abusive to people trying to buy parking tickets.

When the officers told Wright to leave the area, he tried to punch one of them and was arrested.
