A CHRISTMAS market was filled with festive cheer as residents braved the cold and rain to watch tree lights being switched on.

Children and adults enjoyed stalls selling food, arts, crafts, jewellery and ceramics at the first ever Ladywell Christmas market, in Ladywell High Road, last Saturday (December 13).

Mulled wine and free mince pies were also on offer at the Ladywell Tavern pub, in Ladywell Road.

The event, organised by community group The Ladywell Village Improvement Group, was attended by Lewisham Mayor Sir Steve Bullock who switched the Christmas tree lights.

Sir Steve said: “Despite the awful weather Ladywell's first Christmas market was very successful.

“I particularly enjoyed my free mince pie and glass of mulled wine. The Ladywell Village Improvement Group has helped bring the community closer together by putting on this festive event."
