TWO people were taken to hospital with burns after a fire in a flat in Forest Hill.

The fire service were called to a ground floor flat in Braeside Court in Forest Hill Road at about 3.20am today (December 18).

A 30-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man were taken to hospital to be treated for burns and smoke inhalation.

Two other adults believed to be in their 20s escaped from the flat unhurt.

The cause of the fire is under investigation but it is thought a candle in the bedroom may have started it.

The fire was confined to the bedroom but caused smoke damage throughout the flat.

Forest Hill fire crew watch manager Cliff Poke said: “There wasn’t a smoke alarm in the flat.

“If there had been a smoke alarm it would have detected the fire earlier.”
