LAST month, The Kentones barbershop chorus, under the direction of Mike Corr, entered the Beckenham Music Festival in three classes: large choir, gospel choir and barbershop.
The chorus is very proud to have been awarded first prize with honours in all classes plus the choral trophy.
The songs chosen were If I Loved You, Do You Hear the People Sing?, There’s A Meeting Here Tonight, Hush, Once Upon A Time and Sweet Georgia Brown.
One of the chorus’s four quartets, Four’s Company, also entered the competition and sang Hello Mary Lou and Old St Louis and was awarded a certificate of merit.
This was quite an achievement for a quartet on its first public performance.
The venue was Beckenham’s beautiful St George’s Church where the wonderful acoustics enhanced the enjoyment of singers and audience alike.
