KENT Police Authority has rejected proposals to give road crash victims details of a car hire firm.

The authority voted seven to six to reject the scheme which could have earned the county’s force more than £100,000.

During a six-month trial period Kent police aimed to hand out 9,000 Collision Care packs to the victims of road smashes.

The force would then be given a car emblazoned with the Helphire company logo and receive £50 for every driver who hired a vehicle on their recommendation.

The decision came despite Kent police Chief Constable Bob Ayling giving the plan his approval. But the deal was criticised by the Automobile Association who said it looked as if police were taking advantage of crash victims.
