MOTORISTS who chat on mobiles from behind the wheel, risk heavy fines.
As of December 1, a driver using a hand-held mobile will fined £30 and if the offence goes to court, could find themselves up to £1,000 out of pocket.
The Government is also planning to make it an endorseable offence, meaning drivers will lose three points from their licence each time they are caught.
Research has shown using a mobile while driving makes you four times more likely to have an accident.
Safety Minister David Jamieson said: “Any driver will be distracted by a phone call or text message.
“Our decision will make the roads safer. Missing a call won’t kill you — but an accident quite possibly could.” l What do you think? Write to News Shopper, Mega House, Crest View Drive, Petts Wood, BR5 1BT or send an email to newsroom@london. newsquest.co.uk
