A FUMING resident says a newly-constructed pylon which flashes a height warning at motorists, has cast a shadow over his home.
Ray Stephens, 63, of Crofton Road, Orpington, says the five-metre erection dominates the view from his living room window and he fears the value of his house will plummet.
The pylon was constructed following a string of accidents involving lorries crashing into the bridge which spans Crofton Road and leads to Orpington station.
The sign flashes a warning to lorry drivers. If their vehicle is too tall it sends out a beam which is broken by vehicles over a certain height.
Grandfather-of-three Mr Stephens told News Shopper he was not consulted by the council.
He said: “It totally dominates the view from my house and I am worried I will not be able to sell it because of this big ugly thing.” But Bromley Council says the warning system is essential. A spokesman said: “We had to do something before someone was seriously injured or killed.”
