POLICE and footballers will be handing out white ribbons as part of a campaign against domestic violence.

The Safer Lewisham bus, in partnership with Lewisham Council and the police, will be parked in the market area in Lewisham town centre next Monday (November 24), between 10.30am and 3pm.

Police officers will be on board to provide information about domestic violence in support of national White Ribbon Day next Tuesday (November 25).

International campaign group the White Ribbon Campaign is behind the day which is aimed at encouraging men to take more responsibility in tackling domestic violence against women.

Two players from Millwall Football Club will also be attending the event and the team will have a double-decker bus at the same location, at 1.30pm.

Lewisham cabinet member for community safety Councillor Crada Onuegbu said: “It’s important for people to be aware of domestic violence.

“I really hope people will take full advantage of the advice and information on offer.”
