A GROUP of disabled children will soon be able to enjoy favourite films, such as Harry Potter, without worrying about other filmgoers.

Councillor Sharon Massey, who chairs Bexley Council’s sub-group on autism, has struck a deal with Bexleyheath’s Cineworld to set aside time one Sunday a month for children with autistic spectrum disorder.

The behaviour of children with autism can be difficult for other people to understand. This makes it difficult for families with an autistic child to have family outings.

She said: “I approached Cine UK to ask if it could help these families get to the cinema for an outing most of us take for granted.

“Now, thanks to Emma Robinson and the team at Cine UK, families in Bexley can go to the cinema and relax, instead of worrying if they are disturbing other customers.” Helen Sharp, of the National Autistic Society Bexley, added: “This is a major achievement for families with autistic/Asperger’s syndrome children to be able to access and enjoy the same normal experiences and activities as their peers.” The special screenings will take place one Sunday a month at 10am at a greatly-reduced price, starting on June 29.
