AN ANGRY driver forced parking bosses to back down after she was given a parking fine despite having a valid pass — thanks to News Shopper.

Jay Rogers, 36, of Kedleston Drive, Petts Wood, had parked her car as usual in Petts Wood station car park, using her three-month £27 pass.

But she was shocked to find a £25 penalty charge from car park bosses Central Parking System (CPS) on her windscreen after returning from work.

The mother-of-two said: “I couldn’t believe it when I saw the ticket, I thought it was a joke and would be easily sorted out with a simple phone call.

“I wrote three letters explaining the situation but just got standard replies demanding payment.” Mrs Rogers had nearly given up hope when she called her favourite newspaper, News Shopper, for help. We set-up a showdown between Mrs Rogers and CPS contract manager Andrew Thomson in the car park.

When Mr Thomson heard her story, he waived her fine, saying the ticket should never have been issued.

She said: “In the end I would have paid because I didn’t want the bailiffs coming round and all the hassle that entails. They weren’t taking any notice of me but thanks to News Shopper it was all sorted out.” Mr Thomson said: “It was just a mistake and we apologise to Mrs Rogers for the inconvenience.

He added: “If any other tickets were issued erroneously on that day we will cancel them as well.” The ticket was issued on May 30.
