WEST WICKHAM BOWLING CLUB (Ladies Section)

Despite the midweek Met Office prediction that Sunday June 8 was to have been a complete washout, the sun shone warm and bright as 24 ladies from six clubs in Kent, trooped through the gates of West Wickham Bowling Club to play the ladies from the host club in a charity match in aid of the Breast Cancer Campaign.

Pink ribbons were very much in evidence as Ladies Captain, Mrs Barbara Way, greeted her guests with a basket full of the charity’s emblem.

The Biggin Hill Air Show occupied some of the Club’s airspace with the Red Arrows disgorging their red, white and blue smoke trails immediately overhead, providing additional free entertainment for guests and members alike.

Some of the gentlemen from the Men’s Section assisted the ladies Secretary Judy Huggins, to prepare and serve a three course meal and organise a raffle. Judy, who had planned the event, was thanked by Captain Barbara and presented with a beautiful floral hanging basket. Mrs Anne Stone, Past President of Kent County Bowling Association and a member of the Blackheath and Greenwich B.C. proposed a vote of thanks on behalf of the guests.

The day raised £400 for the charity made up of a £100 donation from Coors Brewery, £240 from the proceeds of the raffle and spider and the balance donated.
