A BROMLEY man jailed for three months for having sex on a Dubai beach will appeal against the verdict.

Vince Acors, 34, of Bromley, and Michelle Palmer, 36, of Oakham, Rutland, were found guilty during a short hearing at Dubai's Court of First Instance.

As well as jailing the pair, Judge Hamdi Abul Kharr fined them 1,000 dirhams (£155) and ordered their deportation.

The pair were seen romping on Jumeirah Beach on July 5, hours after meeting at a £60 all-you-can-drink champagne brunch.

After the hearing Hassam Matter, who represents Palmers and Acors, said: "We are making an appeal against the verdict.

"They haven't been arrested and taken into custody yet. I have 15 days to appeal. I have to find the reason why the judge gave three months. They are innocent. They are at home (in Dubai). I have spoken to them. They are upset."

Acors and Palmer both denied offences of unmarried sex and public indecency but admitted being drunk at the time of their arrest, in the early hours of July 5.

The pair met at Dubai's five-star Le Meridien hotel just hours before their arrest for cavorting in public.

Prosecutors said they were seen having sex on Jumeirah Beach after being dropped off by a taxi.

But Miss Palmer, who worked on the emirate as a publishing executive, claimed they were "just kissing and hugging".

This was the invertible outcome.

Some might seem it is a bit harsh, but when you enter a country like Dubai you are told what behaviour is expected and that they do have severe punishments.

Its not harsh, its their laws and as Erastus correctly stated

'when in Rome'

Dont go there if you are not going to behave in a fashion that the particular country considers an acceptable level of behaviour.

I don't personally think it's harsh Enigma. I've been to Dubai and I know that you have to respect their laws, what I said in my comment was "some" might see it as a bit harsh

Some people do, some people don't. A bit like when Brits go to other countries really. One has to obey the law or take the consequences. Dubai might have more draconian punishments than most, but all the more reason to watch your step if you choose to visit.

Lizzielooloo,

I was not disputing your opinion, I noted the use of the word 'some'. I am merely stating my own opinion, just because I had the fortune to follow your post does not mean I was mis interpreting you or following your comment. As you will note I did not quote you.

I too have frequented Dubai, and appreciate the local laws/customs and find that there is plenty of entertainment within the realms of the law.

Point taken Enigma but it appeared you were having a dig, but now I see you were not.

I agree Dubai is a lovely place to visit and agree there is lots to keep you entertained without breaking the law!
