A TEENAGER is in custody after a late-night car chase through Orpington yesterday (Oct 14).

Police were on patrol in Court Road at 11.04pm when a black Vauxhall Corsa jumped a red light and then failed to stop for the pursuing officers.

The car then accelerated into Church Hill, sped across a mini roundabout at the junction with Orpington High Street, before ignoring a no-entry sign and turning into White Hart Road.

The driver was forced to mount a pavement to avoid an oncoming lorry in Broomhill Road.

The 10-minute chase ended when the car, believed to have been stolen from the Orpington area, stopped in Fairfield Road and the driver ran off.

Police found the suspect, believed to be from St Paul’s Cray, hiding in a nearby driveway.

A 17-year-old youth was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, failing to stop for police and possession of cannabis.

He remains in police custody while forensic teams examine the car.

he should remain in custody for far longer than the duration of the forensic examination! Putting at risk the lives of innocent people - predermined act of theft. Attempted manslaughter of anyone else in the area...

I know the boy that was in custody, and he wasn't the one who stole the car, he got in later not knowing it was stolen, i do agree with Madras's comment though as there is too much car crime around, and people making the roads more dangerous for others
