PLANS to expand the use of the former Millennium Dome have been approved.
Greenwich Council has granted the owners of The O2 in Greenwich Peninsula outline planning permission to develop an extra 24,000 square metres of the landmark building.
AEG hopes to use the space for food and drink establishments, as well as entertainment, leisure and sports.
The O2 opened in June last year and currently houses a 20,000 seat arena, a cinema, exhibition space, the Indigo music venue, bars, restaurants and conference facilities.
Council leader Chris Roberts said: “The O2 is an internationally acclaimed landmark venue, and it attracts millions of visitors into the borough from across the UK and the globe.
“It forms part of the much larger area being regenerated and its success demonstrates how the long-term strategy for the area is coming to fruition.”
