The article PUBLIC WANT ACTION ON ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR informs us that the police finally understand the public want something done about anti-social miscreants who make life a misery for ordinary people.

What the police and the powers-that-be do not seem to have grasped is that ‘Acceptable Behaviour Contracts and anti-social behaviour orders’ is not what the majority of us want.

Punishments that fit the crimes are what we demand and sooner rather than later.

Let’s face it; the kind of yob who gets slapped with an ASBO is the sort of pea-brained imbecile who looks upon it as a medal of honour.

One only has to listen to these little angels talking amongst themselves on public transport, bragging that either they are or someone they know is in court next week, to realise that the present system holds no fear for today's yobs.

The only way to stop people committing crimes is to make them frightened of the consequences of their actions.

If murderers, armed robbers, rapists and child molesters know they will be out of prison after a few years, what is to stop them thinking twice about committing the offence again?

As you know, I am all for bringing back corporal punishment for persistent offenders, 25 years behind bars for possession of a knife and life for possession of a gun.

The ultimate punishment would be of the capital variety and this would be reserved for murderers, rapists, sex offenders and terrorists.

The punishment should fit the crime.

Do you really think the Connors, Tylers, Ambers and Kylies of this world will take any notice of a workshop or a group hug with the local constabulary?

They must be made to live in fear of reprisals from police officers and the courts, not sat down and given counselling for God’s sake!

Let’s get the old Borstal system going again.

I have heard many accounts of radio phone-in listeners who were forced to attend Borstal in their younger days. Most of them say that their experience was so unpleasant that they were reformed overnight.

It seems the proof of the pudding is indeed in the consumption.

Good old-fashioned punishment is what is needed to sort out the cast members of this horror film that is being played all over the country.

Let’s get out the wooden stakes and silver bullets ready for action.
