A GRIEVING mother is pleading for witnesses to come forward after her lifeguard son was brutally beaten to death.

Father-of-two, Sheldon "Anton" Bobb, 21, was found lying in the road outside his home in Saxton Close, Lewisham, suffering serious head injuries.

The 21-year-old who was a lifeguard at Wavelengths Leisure Centre in Deptford, was rushed to Lewisham Hospital at 3pm but died of internal bleeding and shock just hours later on February 21.

His mother, Glynis Brewster, 43, said: "Sheldon was a loving son and as a person he was very passionate about justice.

"If anyone knows anything at all it's really important to be brave and care enough to share what you know so he can have some justice for himself," she added.

Police still do not know if Sheldon was attacked in the street or killed elsewhere and then dumped outside his home.

They have 20 officers working on the case and a police intelligence officer is searching for details of similar attacks. A racist motive has still not been ruled out.

Det Chief Insp Chris Horne said: "We know Sheldon was in the flat shortly before the incident in Saxton Close, but we have no identification of suspects at this stage and are appealing for anyone who might have seen or heard anything to come forward.

"People we have talked to get on very well with him - he was a very popular young man and had no enemies at all," he added.

Friends and neighbours who are still reeling from the shock have laid flowers outside the home he shared with his mother.

Written on one tribute was: "Sheldon, no-one will ever know how much I love you and care about you. I am so grateful for the beautiful daughter you gave me and through her your life will continue. I love you now and forever, Kerry and baby Sheldy".

Another said: "To Anton, I didn't know you very well but when we did see each other you always had time to ask me about college or university or about work. That little bit of time was greatly appreciated."

Sheldon's boss, Wavelengths Leisure manager Robert Bourne, said: "He was a great friend and a good worker.

"He had a great sense of humour and was always polite and helpful. He was popular with customers and staff and we are all going to miss him.

Lewisham Council leader Dave Sullivan said: "This is a tragedy. Sheldon's colleagues are clearly shocked and the council has lost a valued employee.

"We are helping the police and I trust they will act with speed and sensitivity," he added.
