A MOBILE library has been launched to take over services from Downham Library, which has now closed.
The former Moorside Road library will be replaced by a new £10m lifestyles centre, which will include a library, swimming pool and drama studio.
The mobile library will provide a full library service while the building work takes place, stocking a wide variety of books for all age groups.
It has full disabled access and a request facility for borrowers who want specialist items.
Children from St Barnabas pre-school playgroup were the first customers at the new mobile library, which will visit different sites five days a week.
The mobile library will call at St Barnabas Hall, Downham Way, on Mondays from 10am to noon and 2pm to 4pm and on Thursdays from 10am to noon and 2pm to 5pm.
On Tuesdays it will visit Laurelbrook, in Waters Road, from 10am to noon and between 2pm and 5pm.
Residents can also borrow books at the north end of Bromley Road, near the junction with Brangbourne Road, on Saturdays from 10am to noon and 2pm to 4pm.
