STUDENTS aged 14 have improved their chances of succeeding at their GCSEs by completing an IT course.

This month 25 pupils at Dartford Grammar School for girls in Shepherds Lane achieved an Ingot gold qualification from The Learning Machine (TLM).

TLM is an examining body recognised by the government and the Ingot gold course taught the year nine students IT skills usually only learnt in year 11.

Headteacher Jane Wheatley said: "Our students have excellent IT skills which are recognised by this qualification.

"By learning these skills earlier they are able to use them in other GCSE subjects."

The Ingot gold course is equivalent to two thirds of a GCSE IT course.

Dartford Grammar School introduced the qualification this year.
