THE Olympics may have ended but two Eltham women still have their sights firmly set on China to raise money for the National Deaf Children's Society.

On October 4, Kim Bryant and Rachael Burt, from Specsavers in Eltham, will trek 60km across the Great Wall of China.

The colleagues are hoping to raise £5,000 for the charity, which aims to break down barriers for every deaf child so they can have a life like that of a hearing child.

Kim, dispensing optician, aged 36, said: "I am really looking forward to it although it will be a real challenge.

"We will be walking up to six hours a day for five days, so we have been doing our best to train as much as we can.

"We won't be walking the whole of the Great Wall but the trek covers some tough parts of it."

Rachael, dispensing assistant, aged 32, said: "This subject is very close to my heart as I used to teach sign language.

"The trek is 60km in total which does not sound much but we will be continually walking up and down steps on top of the wall so it will be hard going."

Staff at the store will be supporting Kim and Rachael through in-store fundraising. Collection boxes will be made available for customers to make donations.
