A LABOUR MP is "delighted" at plans to extend a bus route in Eltham after years of campaigning.

Eltham MP Clive Efford has welcomed the decision by Transport for London (TfL) to extend the 132 bus service to provide a direct route from Eltham to North Greenwich.

Mr Efford said: "Hundreds of people have contacted me over the years to express their dissatisfaction with public transport links to North Greenwich "I am delighted and I have been pushing for the introduction of a route like this for years.

"Accessing the 02 and shops on the Greenwich peninsular has meant a bus journey that could take up to an hour. Now we will have a direct service."

The new service is planned to start in January.

Its not good news, the current 132 bus service is ultra reliable. When it extends to North Greenwich it will suffer mega delays in the A102/ Greenwich Library area. When the Blackwall Tunnel gets closed (virtualy every morning) the whole of Greenwich becomes gridlocked.. and all our 132s will be stuck in it. A better solution would have been a new route starting from New Eltham or Eltham High ST.

Clive Efford MP as still ignored peoples and residents request for a bus service from Kibrooke Rochester Way including Birdbrooke Road and Carnbrooke Road estates to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Woolwich Town Centre including the new Woolwich Arsenal DLR Station opening in early 2009. Kidbrooke Rochester Way needs the 286, 132 to North Greenwich Station & 02 Arena and a new route to Queen Elizabeth Hopsital and Woolwich Town Centre.

This is definitely good news. The 161 can take an hour from North Greenwich to Eltham. A more direct route is very welcome.

Well done and thanks to all those involved in the campaigning, including Mr Efford.
