POLICE have raided a cannabis factory, with an estimated yield of more than £2m per year, in Lee Green.

The 20,000 square foot factory premises in Old Street, off Lee High Road, contained 2,500 mature cannabis plants and had been rewired to bypass the electricity supply.

The doors had also been modified with wires to give an early warning of a raid.

Officers from Lee Green and Lewisham safer neighbour teams searched the three storey factory premises under warrant on Thursday (September 18).

On the 7,000 square foot second floor officers found 2,500 mature cannabis plants and recovered equipment and fertiliser used for growing and harvesting cannabis.

And there was evidence that work been done to prepare the first floor of the building for growing cannabis plants.

A home-made flamethrower was also found at the premises.

PS Simon Hedges of Lee Green Safer Neighbourhood Team said: "This discovery is one of the biggest ever made in this borough and it has potentially prevented millions pounds of cannabis being sold on the streets of London.

"Potentially this building, once all the floors had been converted, could have produced an annual harvest of £6m."

Anyone with information should call Lee Green Safer Neighbourhoods Team on 020 8721 2482 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

The headline and the article contradict each other.

The headline says the police found £2m of cannabis. The article says that the "factory" (factory? for plants? really?!) could have produced an estimated, £2m of cannabis.

So did the police really find £2m of cannabis in this place on Thursday?

Very sloppy journalism!

The property is actually in Old 'Road'. As far as I'm aware there is no Old Street in Lee Green.

Maybe the reporter spent too long around the fumes in the factory!

do the maths, 2500 plants with an average yield of 100 grammes a plant is 250000 grammes with a street value of £6.00 a gramme totals 1.5 million so his not actually that far off the mark is he, sloppy journos ? more like retard readers who cant add up or deduce a simple equation for themselves.it did after all say estimated and he is reliant on the info the police give him, maybe you should try his job as you think its so easy, but then the readers wouldnt really be interested in what the tele tubbies did today now would they!

You should get out more -

where on eart did you get an average yield of 100 grams thats ridiculous, dried weight on well grown plants like this would be more like 350grams at least. £6 a gram means that an eigth would cost £21, it cost £20 and on a large scale like this would only net less than a pound a gram as it still has hands to pass and im sure they not selling all the millions worth in £6 bags.

Your the only retard for being prepared to slag off everyone else clearly stating obvious and very misleading mistakes in what is meant to be professional journalism. And by attempting to back this with misinformation as stupid as that of this lying journalist.

100g? 350g? A lot of speculation and from what I hear you'd be doing good to get 1-2oz per plant (28-56g) but hey what would I know...£20 for an eighth (3.5g) sure. The report is saying £2m seized so it suggests there was a street value of £2m regardless of whether one person or 500 people are involved, taking a cut. I would like to know how they measure the weight though, maybe they just weigh everything the find and call it £5 a gram for convenience?

Strange how people are actually proud of their knowledge of the current value of illegal drugs. Actually, it's not strange, it's sad.
