THERE were some excellent results last weekend for the Samuel Montagu FC's teams.
In the Bexley & District under-nines Junior League Division A, last season's winners Samuel Montagu Lions beat a very spirited Blackheath Wanderers side 3-1.
Montagu started well, but it was Blackheath who got the opening goal with a strike which just went underneath goalkeeper Jordan Holland.
The setback didn't deter Montagu and they kept their relentless attacks going with some great passing , but it was Blackheath who still led 1-0 at the break.
Changes were made at the start of the second half as Montagu tried to get back on terms and the plan paid off when Taylor Costello headed them level.
From this point Montagu were in full control, pressing the Blackheath defence at every opportunity.
And it was this sustained period of pressure which ultimately reaped rewards when parents' man of the match Daniel Cornelius gave them a 2-1 lead.
And then came what could already be a contender for goal of the season.
Reece Derose took up possession, got past his marker and struck from distance, looping his shot ball over the Wanderers keeper to seal a 3-1 triumph.
Meanwhile, there was a 5-2 win at Bexley for Samuel Montagu in the under-nines Division C.
In the under-10s, Samuel Montagu Fire beat Blackheath Wanderers 2-0 and there were also wins for the under-11s, under-12s and under-14s to cement a good start to the campaign for the club.
