Life sentence for mechanic killer

A DRUG dealer has been given a life sentence for the brutal murder of a Mottingham mechanic.

John Seton, aged 25, of no fixed address, was sentenced at the Old Bailey this morning (September 12) and told he must spend a minimum of 30 years in prison.

After a trial earlier this month, Seton was found guilty of shooting 29-year-old Jon Bartlett in the face with a shotgun near Chislehurst Common in March 2006.

Mr Bartlett, formerly of Portland Road, Mottingham, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The mechanic's family were in court for the sentencing and his dad said he was thankful for the lengthy sentence.

He said: "Seton got 30 years but it still doesn't bring my son back. My time at the Old Bailey is done and dusted now and I hope I never have to go back there.

"I am glad he got the maximum, it makes you feel a little bit better about it all.

"He showed no remorse and so deserves the maximum time, although it should have been a life for a life."

Seton fled abroad after the killing before admitting to Dutch police he was wanted for murder in the UK.

Speaking after the trial, Detective Superintendent Jill Bailey said: "This was a very challenging investigation, made more difficult by the destruction of the car involved in the crime and Seton being assisted by others to evade capture and operate under a false identity when he fled abroad."

Seton has been in custody since he was charged with murder in May 2007.

John, my comment was not directed at you.

As I said, there is a big possibility that Seton will be out walking the streets in just a few years.

Murderers like this should pay the ultimate price, not be treated to a holiday at our expense.

If hanging was given the public vote, it would return tomorrow.

Wow 30 years!! Surely this has to be the first life sentence with more than 10 years given. It’s amazing how many murders take place and the usual sentence given is an absolute joke.

Such a shame that two young men have lost their lives, live by the sword die by the sword.

I hope Seton is haunted till his dying day for what he has done - to Jons family, friends and everyone that knew him. John Seaton is innocent, he got stitched up by the seaton family. seaton family are big time gangster wannabes, who DO deal plently of drugs. So its another drug dealer off of our streets. His dad totally knew he was a drug dealer as his dad was probably involved most of the time!

I hope a retrial will be soon, when John will be proved to be innocent because he IS!

I know John and he would never do something like this, I believe he is innocent and i hope they find the person that realy murdered him......John Bartlett did not kill jon seaton. HE IS INNOCENT.

Listen john seaton did not kill jon!!an he will get proved innocent it might take a while but it will b worth the wait...they had hardly any eveidence in court he aint tryna be no gangster an why should he show remorse in court he aint done **** all!! john seaton is a great fella with a lovley family people should think b 4 they get involved with the drugs i write to john all the time he is doin good an keeping his head up like he should be as he aint done **** all!!! An as for the person that sed he wouldnt survive on the street you dunno what your talking about, theres always some 1 bigger an better!!! anyway hope you all know they had no evidence on seaton except for he was meeting up with jon the bag i knew jon the bag an seaton i was closer with seaton but still jon the bag was far from an angel!!!!! an my heart does go out to his family
