THE number of cases of a superbug recorded by a health trust rose by almost a half in one month.

Nine C diff infections were recorded by Bromley Hospitals' NHS Trust in July, bringing the total so far this year to 30.

The trust runs the Princess Royal University Hospital in Farnborough, the Alan Cumming Day Surgery Unit, based at the PRUH and the Orpington Treatment Centre.

In June 10 cases were recorded, compared with 11 in total from January to May.

No MRSA infections were reported in July.

There have been three cases of MSRA this year.

The trust is performing within the national targets set this year for hospital acquired infections, which is 12 for MRSA and 120 for C diff.

Nurse director at the trust Jennie Hall, said: "We are extremely disappointed at these latest cases which we are investigating individually to understand what happened and how best to prevent a recurrence."
