I tried a ten-course tasting menu with no idea what I was eating, and it was an evening I will never forget.

Six by Nico in Canary Wharf is offering a new concept called TRUST.

As the name suggests, you put your trust in the chef to bring out delicious plates without knowing what you are eating.

Upon arrival, guests are given a blank menu and a pen so that they can write down their guesses about what they are eating at the meal goes on.

There are ten courses to ponder so plenty of chances to try again if you are not right the first time – I definitely had my fair share of wrong guesses throughout the evening.

Before the ten courses came out, we were brought the snack which turned out to be a savoury doughnut filled with pork, sundried tomatoes and smoked mozzarella – a cracking start to the meal.

The next course we managed to decipher was a deconstructed lasagne, we were extremely proud of ourselves.

A dish that puzzled us though was a soup that was an orange colour.

While I was convinced that it was a curried mushroom soup, my boyfriend as certain that it was butternut squash, but we turned out to both be wrong and it was actually spiced pumpkin soup.

When the waiters came to take our plates, they asked us what we thought each one was and we gave them our guesses.

They then told us whether we were right and if we were wrong, they told us what it actually was.

The idea behind this is to encourage diners to be present as they eat and really think about what they can taste in their food.

So often these days we are easily distracted by our phones and our surroundings, but when you don’t know what’s on the menu there is much more incentive to concentrate on your food.

My personal favourite plate of the evening was a pea and parsley risotto topped with goat’s cheese which was rich, creamy and delicious.

We had coley two ways – a fish I had never tried before and would likely not have tried if not trying out the TRUST menu.

Once we were served it as ceviche and then cooked to perfection with spinach pesto, samphire and a brown butter sauce.

The cheese course consisted of an adorable slice of camembert, and I must admit I was getting full by this point but I could not admit defeat and not taste the dessert.

There were two desserts, the first was a deconstructed Bakewell tart and the second was a sweet and light white chocolate mousse with pecan crumb and lime gel.

The tasting menu came with five wines paired to the dishes to give guests the ultimate dining experience.

While the food is delectable, the TRUST menu at Six by Nico was more than dinner for me it was an experience.

I think this would make an amazing first date, giving two people lots to chat about as they navigate their way through the courses, but it also fun and interesting to do with friends and family.
