The parents of a new-born baby who died after being injured during labour are hoping for answers at an inquest conclusion this month.

Finn Kennedy, Ruth and Martin Kennedy's first baby, was born on June 23, 2021 at the Oasis Birth Centre - a midwife led unit within the Princess Royal University Hospital in Orpington.

Finn experienced a significant hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) injury during labour.

He was then taken to Kings College Hospital NICU for treatment, but died eight days later on July 1, 2021, after the life support machine was switched off.

Ruth, who is employed as an NHS Speech and Language Therapist, suffered a third-degree tear during labour and required surgery and has also suffered PTSD following her experience.

Martin, who works as a Quantity Surveyor, has also suffered a psychological reaction from witnessing the birth and making the decision to end his son’s life.

An inquest took place at Inner South London Coroner's Court between March 11 and March 12.

The inquest is set to conclude on April 25, 2024.

Finn’s parents are hoping that the conclusion will provide answers as to why their son died.

The couple are represented by Clinical Negligence Solicitor and birth injury claims specialist Bethany Kyle from Ashtons Legal, who is advising them in relation to the inquest and a civil claim against the hospital.
