A COUPLE'S car is still under a pile of rubble weeks after another vehicle smashed into their garage in the early hours.

Walter and Joyce Alimo have had to leave their Toyota Corolla there while experts check the garage for asbestos.

The crash in Warren Road, Orpington, happened at around 1am on July 13 and saw the green Honda Civic involved left on its side on top of the garage.

This was after a teenage boy driving the car lost control and crashed through a garden before hitting the garage.

Mr Alimo, who has lived in Warren Road with his wife for 20 years, said: "We are all upset about it.

"Of course we are pleased no-one was killed or seriously injured but it has done a lot of damage and left months of restoration work.

"I know our car has a smashed windscreen and a dented roof but we won't know the full extent of the damage until we can clear the rubble."

The couple are using a courtesy car while experts search for asbestos and expect to have to wait at least another two weeks before the car can be removed.

Mr Alimo, who is retired, added: "We are looking forward to getting our car back. It is a wonderful car and I just hope we don't have to pay for a new one because we just can't afford it at the moment."

The 16-year-old driver, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at Bromley Youth Court on Tuesday (July 22) in connection with the crash.

He admitted charges of aggravated vehicle taking and driving without a licence and insurance.

The teenager, from Green Street Green, was sentenced to attend the Bromley Youth Offender Panel for nine months and ordered to pay £55 costs.

He also received six points on his driving licence, should he ever obtain one.

The youth was not injured in the crash and was arrested at the scene.

A teenage boy who was a passenger in the car suffered minor injuries and was taken to the Princess Royal University Hospital, Farnborough, for treatment.

Its not April 1st is it? £55 for no ins, licence aggravated vehicle taking (so I assume someone got a beating when he nicked their car) this country is a joke I may as well cancel my car insurance & take a holiday. Mind you seeing as im silly enough to work for a living they would throw the book at me. After this measly fine I should think we will be hearing more from this piece of scum, as he progresses up the criminal career ladder.

Just to slightly correct the above two comments - the £55 was not a fine. It was a small contribution towards the costs of the prosecution. The actual sentence, and therefore the only punishment he receives, is the attendance at the youth offender place.

Amazingly the 'aggravated' part refers to the fact that he flattened the garage! The world of the criminal justice system never ceases to amaze!

Six points on his license 'should he ever get one'? He should now face a ban until he is at least 25. And have to rebuild the damage he has done.
