A football star has opened a new charity shop on Orpington High Street, with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Former Charlton Athletic, Chelsea and West Ham star and football pundit Scott Minto marked the official opening of Demelza’s new shop on Wednesday, January 31.

Demelza offers valuable clinical care and emotional support to children with serious or life-limiting conditions across south east London, Kent and east Sussex.

The new location at 309 High Street, Orpington, presents an array of stylish and vintage items including clothes, shoes, media, toys, and household items.

The shop also stocks gifts, ornaments, accessories, seasonal products and bags.

Profits from shoppers will contribute to the essential services provided by Demelza, such as short breaks, therapies, family support, symptom management and end-of-life care.

Residents were also excited about the opening, as queues formed down the high street - with some shoppers arriving more than 90 minutes before to the grand unveiling.

Minto, who took the opportunity to talk to staff and customers, said: "Glad I could play a very small part today and a really big well done to everyone at Demelza – the shop looks fantastic and I would encourage everyone to pop in, shop and donate to this amazing charity."

Demelza's Director of Retail Ashley Henson, said: "Opening a new shop is such an exciting time for Demelza and all involved.

"This shop is really special – it’s the biggest high street business ambition we have had to date, and the fantastic location is pivotal to raising awareness of the services we offer to children in the local area."

The Orpington shop will help in providing funding for Demelza, whilst also supporting neighbouring Demelza shops with stock needs and stock movement.

Ms Henson added: "We really are passionate about charity retail and offering exciting fashion and homewares to our customers with fantastic cost of living beating prices, while supporting the environment and greener retail.

"We welcome stock donations in store now."

Demelza is always searching for volunteers at their shops across the south east.
