An arrest has been made after a car was reportedly seen travelling on the wrong side of the A2 in Bexleyheath.

Officers were called to the carriageway near Danson Interchange at around 4.55am today (January 28).

While responding to the incident, police were informed the car was also involved in a crash with a vehicle. 

The driver was arrested on suspicion of drink drive and taken to a hospital as a precaution.

He remains in custody at a south London police station.

The road was partially closed to traffic but has since reopened.

A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called at about 04:55hrs on Sunday, 28 January to reports of a car travelling on the wrong side of the carriageway on the A2 in Bexleyheath.

“While en route, officers were informed that the car had collided with a vehicle.

“The driver was arrested on suspicion of drink drive and taken to a hospital as a precaution.

“He remains in custody at a south London police station.

“The road was partially closed to traffic.”
