A Bromley doctor has been named the longest serving GP in the area after serving his community for 47 years.

Dr Geoffrey Barker, who retired in December 2023, began his journey as a GP in 1976 after receiving his qualifications from Guy’s Hospital.

He started his working in Catford and Green Street Green for three years, before settling into a full-time role in Green Street Green.

For many years, the family doctor worked in partnership with Dr Anthony Mansi at a surgery in Glentrammon Road.

In the past, Dr Barker also served as a Forensic Medical Officer with the Met Police, making him the youngest doctor at the time to take on such a role.

For 28 years, he also worked as a Hospital Practitioner in Dermatology at Orpington Hospital, gaining a reputation in the area for his expertise in dermatological problems.

Before his retirement, Dr Barker practised at the Green Street Green Medical Centre.

The staff at the centre expressed their gratitude towards Dr Barker for his dedicated service and for being the ultimate advocate for patients.

They wished him a happy and healthy retirement, thanking him for his many contributions to the Medical Centre and wider community.
