Two women including one who is elderly and vulnerable got trapped inside a lift at Abbey Wood station on Boxing Day.

Firefighters were called to the pair on Tuesday, December 26 just before 4pm.

An elderly woman living with dementia and her daughter were stuck for thirty minutes, with the daughter telling the News Shopper it was a "horrible, scary experience".

A spokesperson for TfL has since said they are “very sorry for the distress” to the customers who they were in “constant contact” with to reassure them both whilst they were stuck inside.

The spokesperson added: “All our lifts are regularly serviced with this lift remaining out of service until a full assessment can take place to ensure it is working correctly.”

One fire engine from Plumstead Fire Station attended the scene.

The incident was over by 4.35pm.
