AN alleged arsonist killed a mother in her home while pursuing a vendetta against her son, the Old Bailey has heard.
Diane Carrington, aged 47, suffered burns and smoke inhalation during the flat fire in Fern Court, Drakefell Road, New Cross. She later died in hospital.
A 15-year-old girl was also in the flat at the time and managed to escape by clinging on to a bathroom window ledge until she was rescued.
Robert Angus, aged 39, also of Fern Court, is accused of carrying out the attack on October 4 last year to try and murder Mrs Carrington's son Lee.
But Lee was staying with friends at the time of the blaze.
The court heard how Angus and Lee had clashed before the fire because Angus thought the Carringtons were responsible for smashing a window in his flat.
Angus denies murder, attempted murder, arson with intent to endanger life, threats to kill and causing actual bodily harm.
The trial continues.
