YOUNGSTERS have been celebrating the trees in their playground with a series of activities.
All 381 pupils at Highfield Junior School, South Hill Road, Shortlands, took part in a Love School Grounds campaign as part of National School Grounds week.
The aim of the campaign was to ensure school grounds are well looked after.
The children, aged between seven and 11, held a "tree-sure" hunt, wrote poems about trees, read stories under them and learnt how to identify the different types.
Environment co-ordinator and Year 6 teacher Margorie Naja said: "We love our school grounds.
"We are very fortunate to have such a green environment in which to learn.
"And we've enjoyed a wonderful celebration of our trees."
