Londoners may be offered the chance to have their voices heard on the Ultra Low Emission (ULEZ) expansion in a vote.

The Brexit-style vote would see all residents in the currently non-ULEZ areas of Greater London given a say before the zone expands.

It comes as one Conservative politician put forward the idea ahead of the race for the Tory candidate for the 2024 Mayor of London election.

Sharing their plans, bosses said that they would stop the ULEZ expansion taking place in August that would cover all of London and see a daily charge of £12.50 for non-compliant cars.

Greater London could be offered a vote on the ULEZ expansion

Speaking to MyLondon, Conservative party chairman Greg Hands called the expansion "a shambles".

Saying: "Sadiq Khan’s ULEZ expansion is a shambles that will pile yet more costs onto hard-pressed motorists living in the outer boroughs, and those who travel across the border to work or visit friends and family."

However, it was fellow Tory candidate and former adviser to Borish Johnson Samuel Kasumu who suggested a vote.

Sharing that he would offer a vote to those affected on whether to remain or leave the zone if elected Mayor of London.

Kasumu also suggested that the vote would be similar to the Brexit referendum in 2016 with a "simple in or out" response.
