New data obtained in an FOI by News Shopper has revealed the highest speeds recorded by four speed cameras on the Blackwall Tunnel Northern Approach in 2022.
The map below shows the four highest speeds caught by four cameras on the A12 Blackwall Tunnel Northern Approach in 2022.
Owners of vehicles that are caught speeding will be sent a Notice of Intended Prosecution as well as a Section 172 notice within 14 days of the recorded incident.
They, or the company secretary in the case of a company vehicle, must return the notice within 28 days, notifying the police who was driving the vehicle.
The matter will be referred to the magistrates court in the event that the notice is ignored.
Depending on the speed, the driver could receive an option for a speed awareness course, a fixed penalty notice or a letter telling them to go to court.
The maximum speed limit for all four speed cameras is 40 miles per hour and these were the highest recorded speeds on the speed cameras.

The highest speed, recorded by the speed camera near Abbot Road, Southbound E14 in 2022, was 81 miles per hour.
The second highest speed
The second highest speed, recorded by the speed camera near Hancock Road, Southbound E3 in 2022, was 71 miles per hour.

The third highest speed
The third highest speed, recorded by the speed camera near Teviot Street, Southbound E13 in 2022, was 65 miles per hour.
The fourth highest speed
The fourth highest speed, recorded by the speed camera near Teviot Street, Northbound E14 in 2022, was 62 miles per hour.
