A dangerous predator has been jailed for raping a woman after a night out in Southwark.

Petroy Martin, of Doddington Grove in Kennington, was jailed for five years and six months after he showed no remorse for his "vile and bestial" behaviour.

An investigation started when a woman told police that a man raped her following a night out on Sunday, May 22 last year.

Officers identified Martin, 23, via social media and attended his home to arrest him.

He was later found guilty by a jury at Inner London Crown Court.

Detective Constable Jamie Smith, who led the investigation, said: “Martin is clearly a dangerous predator whose actions have had a life-changing impact on the victim.

"As the judge stated at court, Martin showed no remorse for his ‘vile and bestial’ behaviour and we are pleased he has been taken off the streets of London.

"The victim in this case showed real courage in both initially coming forward and reliving her experience by giving evidence at court. Without her actions, Martin may well have committed further offences."

The Met said there could be other victims of Martin's vile behaviour.

DC Smith said: “We also know that there could be other victims of Martin and would encourage anyone who wants to speak to us to come forward. No piece of information is too small and you will be listened to and supported.”

As well as being jailed for five years and six months, Martin was given a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
